My Approach
I have worked with a range of issues, including loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, racism, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, eating disorders and identity issues.
I like to think of therapy as a collaborative process. We are all on our own unique individual journey but the paths we choose are often well-travelled. Having someone with the right experience to help light the way and explore what may be behind the different doors we choose (or not) can be both illuminating and empowering. In an environment of warmth, support and curiosity we are better able to challenge ourselves and deepen self-awareness, to make sense of confusing or difficult experiences and open up new possibilities that align with who we are and how we want to live.
While I am qualified (MUPCA member) in practising Existential Psychotherapy, and trained in Integrative Psychotherapy, I take a holistic approach, considering not only our internal worlds and feelings, but also the wider context and individual biospheres of our key relationships, cultural influences, beliefs, concerns and history. Together we can examine patterns or obstacles that might feel difficult to shift and make room for new perspectives.
Existential Therapy
My work is grounded in existential psychotherapy and phenomenology, meaning we explore how you experience and make sense of the world.
I strongly believe in the power of change, even in the most challenging times. Suffering, though painful, can offer insight and an opportunity to deepen your understanding of yourself and the world around you. By embracing the complexity of human existence, we can begin to see that life’s challenges often stem from its inherent messiness and uncertainty, rather than from disorder, mental illness, or something being fundamentally “wrong” inside.
While we cannot always control what happens to us, we can choose how we respond. My aim is to provide a safe environment, in which you feel supported and empowered to choose to behave in a way that feels right for you, and navigate life’s difficulties with courage.
While existential thought is central to my work, I also integrate psychodynamic and person-centred approaches, allowing for depth and flexibility to suit your unique needs.
